AUG. 4, 2015 — With the release of President Obama’s Clean Power Plan this week, the United States has taken a critical step toward preserving a livable world for future generations, Citizens’ Climate Lobby said Tuesday.

“The President has said all along that he would prefer a market-based solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but Congress has failed to provide one,” said CCL Executive Director Mark Reynolds. “Obama is now doing everything the law allows him to do to cut those emissions and put our nation on a path to a cleaner, healthier and safer future. We applaud the President for this bold initiative.”

The new EPA regulations to curb greenhouse gas emissions at power plants come at a critical time, as nations of the world look to the U.S. to provide leadership in the run up to the global climate agreement in Paris at the end of the year.

“With the U.S. now firmly committed to act on climate change, other nations will follow America’s lead,” said Reynolds.

Even before the release of the Clean Power Plan, the President’s initiative has come under heavy attacks that, if successful, would jeopardize the future of our nation and our world.

” ‘Just say no’ is not a viable option,” said Reynolds. “Unless you have a better plan to stop climate change, you have no credibility to criticize the CPP. We look forward to working with Congress to address this critical problem.”
