Ahead of Senate vote, climate volunteers press Congress to pass permitting reform now
Nov. 5, 2026 – On Monday, Nov. 9, Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) volunteers from across the country will be on Capitol Hill urging senators to pass the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (S. 5653) before the end of the year. The fly-in lands the same day the Senate is expected to hold its first procedural vote on the bill. CCL is co-hosting the day with Dream.org.
Introduced Sept. 30 by U.S. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Mike Lee (R-UT), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), the bipartisan bill speeds up permitting so clean energy projects get built and connected to the grid faster.
“Clean energy projects are waiting in line right now. This bill gets them built. Our volunteers are encouraging their senators to seize this opportunity. The time to act is now,” said Jennifer Tyler, CCL Vice President of Government Affairs.
“The status quo brought us climate change. Leaving that status quo in place is a choice, and our volunteers are asking Congress to act,” said Ricky Bradley, CCL Executive Director.
CCL volunteers and CCL leaders are available for in person interviews at the Capitol on Monday.
