Former Congressman Delaney joins CCE board

WASHINGTON, D.C., SEPT. 10, 2020 — Citizens’ Climate Education is pleased to announce that former Congressman and presidential candidate John Delaney has joined its governing board.

While he was in Congress, Delaney, who represented Maryland’s 6th District for three terms, cosponsored the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. The legislation, supported by Citizens’ Climate Lobby, would place an escalating fee on carbon and distribute the revenue to households. On the presidential campaign trail and in the debates, he touted the carbon fee and dividend policy as a climate solution.

“I’m excited and honored to join the Board of Citizens’ Climate Education,” said Delaney. “As a member of Congress, I was able to see firsthand the rapid growth, tenacity, and effectiveness of this grassroots organization, and I’m proud to join their efforts to fight climate change.”

Before being elected to Congress, Delaney was a successful entrepreneur, having founded and led two New York Stock Exchange listed companies and at one time was the youngest ever CEO on the New York Stock Exchange. Delaney’s companies created thousands of jobs and made over $30 billion of loans to over 5,000 companies. In 2010, he received the Bank Enterprise Award from the Obama Administration for lending to disadvantaged communities.

In addition to Citizens’ Climate Education, Delaney is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bipartisan Policy Center.

“We’re thrilled to have Congressman John Delaney join CCE’s board,” said Citizens’ Climate Education Executive Director Mark Reynolds. “While serving in Congress, John reached across the aisle to find the common ground where problems like climate change can be solved. He’s a great fit for our organization, and we’re looking forward to his service on the board.”
