With weakening of Clean Power Plan, Congress must now enact climate solution

The following is a statement from Citizens’ Climate Lobby Executive Director Mark Reynolds about the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement today to start the process of replacing the Clean Power Plan:

“In the wake of natural disasters made worse by climate change, it is disheartening to see the administration take apart the only national policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The current Clean Power Plan will likely be replaced with a much weaker policy, and it is therefore incumbent upon Congress to enact a solution that minimizes the future risk of climate change. Citizens’ Climate Lobby believes the best approach, one that would actually benefit our economy, is a steadily-rising fee on carbon with revenue returned to American households. This market-based policy has the best potential for support from both Republicans and Democrats.”
