Statement on Energy Permitting Reform Act negotiations

Dec. 17, 2024CCL is disappointed that negotiations around inclusion of the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 in the final spending package of the year have broken down.

This important legislation is urgently needed. Building clean energy infrastructure and connecting it to the grid is a powerful way to address the pollution that’s overheating our planet. The Energy Permitting Reform Act would have brought that reality within America’s grasp. Not only that, the legislation would have brought down costs for American households and increased American competitiveness.

CCL volunteers have had hundreds of meetings, made thousands of phone calls, and sent tens of thousands of messages to Congress urging them to come to an agreement on bipartisan energy permitting reform. Just last week, our volunteers held 320 constituent lobby meetings, having productive discussions about permitting reform on both sides of the aisle.

The clear takeaway: There is bipartisan support to make these important reforms to our permitting process.

The need for these reforms is not going away. We will continue to work with both sides of the aisle in the next Congress to advance this important issue.
