At the fall conference on December 4th, I hosted a Sunday Seminar about the details and implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). With nearly 500 CCL volunteers in attendance, I discussed the many benefits the IRA will provide to different communities — from urban to rural, and from farmers and ranchers to disadvantaged frontline communities. But, crucially, we won’t be able to realize many of the IRA’s benefits unless we speed up the pace at which we build infrastructure via clean energy permitting reform, which is why this is an item on CCL’s policy agenda in 2023.

Then, Dane County, Wisconsin Office of Energy & Climate Change Director Kathy Kuntz provided great details about how individuals, states, cities, and other local municipalities can take advantage of the programs in the IRA. These include tax credits and rebates on renewable energy projects, tax credits for commercial buildings to be more energy efficient, and tax credits for individuals to purchase electric vehicles (EVs) and also for commercial EV fleets. There are also a plethora of rebates and tax credits for individuals to electrify and weatherize their homes, most clearly illustrated in Rewiring America’s wonderful IRA savings calculator.

After our presentations, we spent 40 minutes answering great questions from CCL volunteers. If you want to learn more about the details and implementation of the IRA, check out the recording!
