Online briefing June 9 for new economic study showing carbon tax would create jobs

On June 9, Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL) will release a ground-breaking study prepared by Regional Economic Models, Inc., (REMI) examining the nationwide economic impact of a steadily-rising tax on carbon that returns revenue to households. Among other findings, the report shows such a tax will add 2.2 million jobs over 10 years while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33 percent.

CCL will host an online meeting to brief media about the report and answer questions. RSVP to to receive an advance copy of the REMI report.

WHAT: An online briefing of the new REMI report: The Economic, Climate, Fiscal, Power, and Demographic Impact of a National Fee-and-Dividend Carbon Tax.

WHO: Scott Nystrom, Senior Economic Associate with REMI; Mark Reynolds, Executive Director of Citizens Climate Lobby; Danny Richter, Legislative Director of Citizens Climate Lobby.

WHEN: 1 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. PDT) Monday, June 9.

WHY: The general assumption, until now, has been that solutions to address global warming will be a drag on the economy and lead to loss of jobs. The new REMI study turns that assumption on its head, showing that a carbon tax – if done the right way – will grow the economy and add jobs.

HOW: In order for Scott to walk participants through the report, the meeting is being conducted through Fuze. Meeting URL:
