CCL’s grassroots lobbyists on the steps of the Library of Congress (July 28, 2026)
750+ grassroots volunteers visit Capitol Hill in support of climate action, clean energy
WASHINGTON, D.C. — At a time when political division often dominates headlines, a different story unfolded on Capitol Hill last week from a group of climate and clean energy advocates.
More than 750 volunteers with Citizens’ Climate Lobby traveled from every corner of the country to hold respectful, solutions-focused meetings with both Republican and Democratic congressional offices.
Over the course of hundreds of meetings, volunteers set aside partisan differences to express appreciation to members of Congress for their public service, build relationships, and advocate for practical climate and energy policies grounded in common interests.
Throughout the lobby day on Tuesday, July 28, volunteers held more than 400 meetings with offices to discuss policies to modernize permitting and to protect forests and communities from the increasing risk of wildfires. Ultimately, CCL’s policy asks are ones that will reduce emissions, help remove climate pollution, and protect people from runaway energy costs.
Prior to the lobby day, volunteers attended Citizens’ Climate Lobby’ annual Summer Conference and Lobby Day. They heard from keynote speaker Jigar Shah about clean energy progress and permitting reform opportunities, and they attended sessions to learn CCL’s unique, respectful advocacy approach. The organization’s emphasis on relationship-building has helped foster productive conversations with members of Congress for almost two decades, regardless of who holds power.
“My biggest surprise on lobby day is how close rather than apart many of our values are,” shared New Jersey volunteer Karen D’Orazio. “It provides me with hope that we can bridge our differences and work together as a nation to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our children and our children’s children.”
CCL’s work offers a reminder that thousands of ordinary citizens — and our lawmakers — can bridge political divides, find common ground, and work together to solve one of our greatest shared challenges: climate change.
