About Our Chapter

About Citizens' Climate Lobby
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization empowering people to experience breakthroughs exercising their personal and political power. Our chapter is just one of the hundreds of chapters across the world working to create the political will for a livable world.

We are laser focused on a specific piece of legislation and a proven strategy to gain its passage at the federal level. We are working for the passage of Carbon Fee and Dividend, the climate change solution economists and climate scientists alike say is the “best first-step” to preventing the worst impacts of a warming world.

Our market-based Carbon Fee and Dividend policy will drastically reduce emissions, create jobs, and support small businesses and families — all without growing government.

We’ve seen firsthand how passionate citizens who are well-trained, organized by district and with a good system of support can more than influence the political process.

CCL Canada Featured in Activist Guidebook
CCL Canada was featured in a guidebook for climate activists. The Spark of Connection Social Mobilization for Climate Action was written and compiled by Andrea Hedly, a British Columbian sustainable community planner and engagement specialist.

Here is what Andrea said about us:  Since CCL Canada formed, Orlando and her team have helped citizens all over Canada make hundreds of connections with MPs, through letters, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings. CCL Canada’s role in influencing political will toward adopting a carbon fee and dividend model as
announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2018 can’t be understated.

13th Time Lucky in Canada

In October 2018, Citizens Climate Lobby was on Parliament Hill for the 13th time lobbying collectively.

While on the hill, there were indications that carbon fee and dividend was going to be announced as the official backstop policy for pricing carbon pollution.

Senator for Edmonton, AB Senator Grant Mitchell said, “You are one of the most successful lobbying groups I have worked with because you are about to get what you lobbied for.”

On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, Prime Minister Trudeau announced: “It is free to pollute, so we have too much pollution.” He presented the solution simply too, saying, “Starting next year, it will no longer be free to pollute anywhere in Canada. We are going to place a price on the pollution that causes climate change from coast to coast to coast. We’re also going to help Canadians adjust to this new reality.

And there you have it: Canada enacted the first carbon fee and dividend policy on the planet.

Our work is not done. As all seasoned environmentalist and social justice advocate know, gains made must then be defended.

We need to refresh strengthen and grow our organization.

Join us. We are action-oriented, highly focused and we are not guessing.  Most of all we like to have fun. In less than 10 hours a month, on your own time, you can make a difference.
