Rep. Ted Deutch’s climate leadership will be missed in Congress

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ted Deutch

MARCH 2, 2022 – Throughout Rep. Ted Deutch’s tenure in Congress, Citizens’ Climate Lobby has appreciated his steadfast commitment to climate action. Our volunteers in Florida’s 22nd district have seen Rep. Deutch and his staff work tirelessly to protect not just their beloved home district, but also the whole country, from the worst impacts of climate change.

In 2016, Rep. Deutch co-founded the House Climate Solutions Caucus, jumpstarting the bipartisan conversation around climate. This group created a safe, productive space for Republicans and Democrats to learn about the threat of climate change and explore solutions together. At its largest, the House Climate Solutions Caucus had 90 members, evenly split between the two major parties. The effort also inspired a parallel group in the Senate. Rep. Deutch’s leadership made this remarkable collaboration possible, blunting the partisanship around climate and sparking hope for future progress.

In 2018, Rep. Deutch also introduced the first bipartisan carbon pricing bill in Congress in nearly a decade. He has continued to champion the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act in the years since its initial introduction, welcoming 94 of his colleagues as cosponsors — more than any carbon pricing bill Congress has ever seen. Rep. Deutch’s ambition and vision laid crucial groundwork for previously unthinkable policy breakthroughs.

His steadfast commitment to climate action will be sorely missed on Capitol Hill. We urge his colleagues not to drop the baton as he leaves Congress, but instead to push hard and across the aisle for the climate solutions America needs.
